blame it on my addiction?
People who lose custody of their children, or lose their license, or end up in prison tend to blame it on an addiction. an often time in court they can use this as a legitimate excuse, they plead mentally ill, sane but still ill.
Is this right or wrong, in some scenarios they do win this claim but should they ever?

addiction is not cheap
to smoke just one pack of cigarettes a day cost the average person:
$6.00 per packs
$100.00 in medical
$100.00 in dental
$50.00 for miscellaneous.
it cost on average $2490.00 to fall to this addiction for even just one year. Now imagine you start smoking now an you become an addict for say 20 years that's a total cost of $439800.00 not including such factors as the health of your children( if applicable), or damaged clothing. If you knew back then when you started, what you could have done with all this money, would you have ever started. Smoking is not cheap, don't get me wrong neither are many other addictions, but think about it where could life have been with that money. What would you do with all of that?
In the United States they spend 15.3 Billion on tobacco marketing and promotion.
That is 41 million spent EVERY DAY in the US.

should it be a disablity?
Rather your thoughts on addiction are disease, or choice should it be considered a disability like other disabilities, such as mental or physical disabilities?
The term ‘disability’ means, with respect to an individual –
Substance Addiction Disorders -- The disorder of addiction involves the progression of acute drug use to the development of drug-seeking behavior, the vulnerability to relapse, and the decreased, slowed ability to respond to naturally rewarding stimuli.
The term ‘disability’ means, with respect to an individual –
| (a) | a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of such individual; | |
| (b) | a record of such impairment; or | |
| (c) | being regarded as having such an impairment. the fact that addiction can be dibilitating is true, but unlike many impairments addiction can be stopped an treated, most can't be stopped. |
addiction has been regcognized as a disablity, but is it right?
How is something that is 100% treateable be considered a disablity?
How can soemting that can wind someone up it jail, be a disability?

i can't stop so it has to be a disease?
addiction is technically categorized as a disease, it is a neurological disorder where something is imbalanced in the brain an once something is triggered it is foreseen as very hard to stop.
the false reality that an addict can just quit cold turkey is wrong. at this end of the spectrum it is said that addiction means "the loss of control over the use of a substance."
In the early stages there might be some choice involved, but once the addiction has set in, there is no choice.
being recognized as disease means:

being recognized as disease means:
- The illness can be described.
- The course of the illness is predictable and progressive
- The disease is primary – that is, it is not just a symptom of some other underlying disorder.
- It is permanent.
- It is terminal. If left untreated, it results in insanity or premature death.

It all starts with a CHOICE
so what is addiction? What about it make its so 'uncontrolable' an for some, unbearable to stop?
well on this side of the spectrum that would be true, but many people relapse an often need 'help'. Which is never wrong, but there are a lot of people out there afraid to ask for help. Because in today's society addiction is looked down upon as there are people who believe it is an arrogant choice.
Every addictions starts with a choice, if you never choose to do that in the first place it cannot affect you. "No individual raindrop considers itself responsible for the flood." but it is also the repetition of what at first formed a habit an later formed an addiction, you don't know if it will be the first time you do something, it could be the 50th time. moral of the story don't try it.
Addiction; is finding an activity rather bad or indifferent, that one cannot stop doing, because over a laps of time they have not chosen to discontinue doing this 'habit'

bad addictions:
- Self harm (1 of 200 U.S citizens
Alcohol (1 of 4 U.S citizens)
- Smoking(1 of 10 U.S citizens)
- Heroine, marijuana, and other illegal drugs
- Anorexia (1 of 200 U.S citizens)
- Bulimia (1 of 100 U.S citizens)
- Gambling (1 of 4 U.S. citizens)
- Caffeine
addictions are not normally classified as good because when it becomes a true addictions thoughts of such an action can take over your life. But don't misunderstand, good things can become addictions as well.

So wait, then if it is a choice why can't people stop, if they choose to start they can choose to stop right?
